Baji Arts Collective Exhibit 2016: “Mga Kalaki sa Baji”.

By: Ma. Julie Bee Unlayao

Sharing this post in behalf of the Baji's out there! ! Coz I'm a proud BAJI too...

The Baji Arts Collective once again celebrates womanhood with the annual Women’s Month showcase, the Baji Arts Exhibit that shall run from March 7 thru March 20, 2016 at the Oakbrook Library, Tagbilaran City.

This year’s theme is “Mga Kalaki sa Baji”.
kalaki [ka.lá.ki.]
: (noun) antic; stunt
: (noun) ability; skill; capability; talent; potentiality; competence
: from the rootword lá.ki, meaning boy, man, male
: a gendered expression, unfair to both men and women, that must be challenged

While we hope to open healthy discussions on the nuanced historical and contemporary meanings of this theme, claiming the expression in a showcase of Boholana prowess in the visual and literary arts is also our way subscribing to this year’s International Women’s Day campaign theme: Pledge for Parity.
This year, the world again celebrates the contribution of women to global social, economic, cultural and political achievement. However, noting the slow progress towards gender parity, all men and women is enjoined to take a pledge to make concrete steps to help achieve gender parity more quickly. Whether to help women and girls achieve their ambitions, call for gender-balanced leadership, respect and value difference, develop more inclusive and flexible cultures or root out workplace bias, each of us can be a leader within our own spheres of influence and commit to take pragmatic action to accelerate gender parity. (www.internationalwomensday.com)
We again call on you, Boholana visual artists and creative writers to join us in this 2016 Women’s Month arts event. We are counting on your support, and will be happy to answer any questions you may have. Thank you in advance for your willingness to support and participate in the greater Bohol women/arts community.
